    • Origin: Various tropical climates

Tropical plants were some of the first houseplants ever cultivated. Houseplants consist of any plant that can adapt to the warm, dry conditions of our indoor living spaces. Throughout much of Earth’s history there has been a tropical zone where plants have thrived. Because plants have existed in the tropics for eons, those plants have had plenty of time to diversify into an uncountable number of forms. Most houseplants are, therefore, derived from plants native to the tropics and near tropics. But not all tropical areas are the same — some are rainforests, but others are more seasonal — with wet and dry seasons.
