About The Moon Cactus
The Moon Cactus is a vibrant, eye-catching houseplant with a colorful top grafted onto a green base. Available in shades of pink, orange, or yellow, it adds a fun pop of color to any space. This compact, low-maintenance plant thrives in bright, indirect light and needs only occasional watering. Choose your favorite color or grab all three!
Note: Our cacti aren’t cuttings—they’re fully rooted plants! This means they’re already established and ready to thrive in their new home. Succulents naturally have shallow roots, so don’t be surprised if that’s what you see, it’s a completely natural trait!

Sizing Guide
Small
Approximately 5" in diameter, fits plants in a 4" grow pot or smaller
Medium
Approximately 7" in diameter, fits plants in a 6" grow pot or smaller
Large
Approximately 10-12" in diameter, fits plants in a 10" grow pot or smaller
Massive
Approximately 12-14" in diameter, fits plants in a 12" grow pot or smaller
Watering Requirements
Water every 1-2 weeks in direct light, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in bright direct light, but can tolerate bright indirect light.
Humidity Requirements
Cacti prefer low humidity levels, so it's best to keep them in a dry environment. Avoid placing them in a bathroom or other area with high humidity, as this can cause fungal diseases to develop or the soil to remain moist for too long.

Why can’t a Moon Cactus survive on its own?
The colorful top of a Moon Cactus suffers from a genetic mutation that leaves it completely devoid of chlorophyll. Because chlorophyll is the pigment required for photosynthesis, the top cactus cannot produce its own energy from sunlight. To keep it alive, growers must cut the colorful mutant and physically fuse it onto a green rootstock cactus (usually a dragon fruit cactus, Hylocereus).
What is the average lifespan of a Moon Cactus?
Even with optimal care, a Moon Cactus has a relatively short lifespan of only 3-5 years. When a Moon Cactus reaches the end of its life, the colorful top will begin to turn brown, mushy, or dry up. However, you can save the plant by cleanly beheading the dying top with a sterile knife, allowing the wound on the green rootstock to callus over so it can continue growing on its own!
How do you propagate a Moon Cactus?
You cannot propagate a Moon Cactus by simply planting the colorful baby pups that sprout from the top. If you place a colorful pup directly into soil, it will shrivel and die within a few weeks due to its lack of chlorophyll. To successfully multiply a Moon Cactus, you must regraft the pups.
