If you’ve struggled with the sometimes finicky Fiddle Leaf Fig, give this plant a try instead! Its white trunk and matte green leaves are a fit for modern and traditional spaces alike. Water every 1-2 weeks, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

In its native habitat of India and Pakistan, it is an expansive canopy tree considered sacred. As an indoor plant, it grows into an elegant, upright tree form prized for its pale, smooth bark and large, matte, deep-green oval leaves accented by bold cream veining.

What is a Ficus Audrey?

While the Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrata) is prone to rapid leaf dropping at the slightest change in environment, the Ficus Audrey is significantly more resilient. It is less reactive to being moved, tolerates minor fluctuations in indoor watering habits far better, and is less vulnerable to low indoor humidity.

Why is the Ficus Audrey considered easier to grow than a Fiddle Leaf Fig?

The uniquely soft, fuzzy texture on the leaves and stems of a Ficus Audrey is completely normal. Unlike most other structural figs which feature a waxy, high-gloss coating, the Audrey has microscopic hairs (pubescence) on the foliage. This gives the deep-green leaves a rich, sophisticated matte velvet look and tactile softness.

What do the velvety leaves on a Ficus Audrey mean?

If the leaves drop while turning yellow with soft, brown patches near the center vein, the plant may be overwatered. On the other hand, if the leaves look droopy, feel crispy on the edges, the plant may be underwatered if the soil has completely dried out. Sudden exposure to hot air vents or freezing cold drafts from windows can also cause leaf loss.
