About The Dark Purple Watercolor Orchid
The Dark Purple Watercolor Orchid achieves its look through a special process in which dye is injected into the stem, giving the petals their bright, gradient coloring. The dye is completely safe and causes no harm, though please note that when this plant re-blooms, it’ll be its natural color (white or light pink). This is a Phalaenopsis orchid, which typically blooms about once a year for up to three months. Non-toxic to pets.

Watering Requirements
Water every 1-2 weeks, allowing potting mix to dry out between waterings. If dropped into a decorative, cache planter, pour out excess water 5-10 minutes after watering. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.

Humidity Requirements
While they can tolerate normal room humidity, Phalaenopsis orchids do not like dry air, so try to keep humidity anywhere from 40–70%. During the fall or winter, you can help to boost humidity with a humidifier.

How do you extend the blooming cycle of a Phalaenopsis Orchid?
After the last flower has fallen, if the bloom stalks are still healthy, cut the stem back to a node (where there is a little flap of tissue). With a few weeks of good care, a new bloom stalk might emerge from that node and provide a small flush of blooms that last another 2-3 months!
How do you propagate a Phalaenopsis Orchid?
Unlike most houseplants, you cannot propagate a Phalaenopsis Orchid from a leaf or stem cutting. Instead, they are propagated via a keiki, a genetically identical baby plantlet that occasionally sprouts from a node on a flower spike. Once the keiki grows at least three leaves and several two-inch roots, you can carefully snip and pot it separately.
When is the best time to repot a Phalaenopsis Orchid?
Repot pot-bound orchids after they finish blooming. If you must repot an actively flowering orchid, handle the roots with extreme care to prevent the blossoms from dropping prematurely.
How do you trigger a Phalaenopsis Orchid to rebloom?
Aside from the proper environment and fertilizing, you can try to encourage the next blooming cycle by exposing the orchid to a temporary temperature drop for a few weeks. Placing the plant in a spot that drops to around 55°F to 60°F at night (like near a cool window) signals the orchid to kickstart its next flowering cycle.
