Cuddly Cactus Information

Cuddly Cactus
About The Cuddly Cactus

The Cuddly Cactus gets its name due to the absence of spine clusters, making it a safe option to keep around pets and children. Like most cacti, the evergreen Cereus cactus is drought-tolerant and loves sun.

As a unique cultivated variety, the Cuddly Cactus may occasionally "revert" to its original parent genes by growing new arms with prickly spines. If you notice any sharp new growth, you can simply prune those sections off to ensure your cactus stays cuddly as it continues to grow.

Note: Our cacti aren’t cuttings—they’re fully rooted plants! This means they’re already established and ready to thrive in their new home. Succulents naturally have shallow roots, so don’t be surprised if that’s what you see, it’s a completely natural trait!

  • Each plant is unique; size and shape fluctuate by season so all measurements are shown as a range
  • Medium plants measure 5-9 inches  tall from bottom of the grow pot to the top of the foliage
  • Large plant measures between 3-4 feet tall from bottom of the grow pot to the top of the foliage
  • Arrives in a nursery grow pot nestled in your planter choice

Watering Requirements
Water every 2-3 weeks, allowing soil to thoroughly dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light conditions and less often in lower light.
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in bright light to full sun. Not suited for areas with low light. South & west facing windows ideal, and consider grow lights in fall/winter.
Humidity Requirements
Cacti prefer low humidity levels, so it's best to keep them in a dry environment. Avoid placing them in a bathroom or other area with high humidity, as this can cause fungal diseases to develop or the soil to remain moist for too long.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Cuddly Cactus truly spineless and safe for pets and children?
Yes, the Cuddly Cactus is a naturally occurring mutation of the Brazilian Cereus jamacaru that is completely devoid of sharp spines, needles, or microscopic, painful barbs. As the plant reaches significant maturity or grows entirely new side arms, it may occasionally attempt to push out a few small, weak spines near the very tips which you can prune off to keep the plant cuddly.

Why is my Cuddly Cactus getting skinny, pointed, or leaning at the top?
Your plant is most likely suffering from etiolation caused by low light conditions. Move the cactus to your absolute brightest window, ideally a south-facing sill that gets 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
