Spiral Cactus
About The Spiral Cactus

The Cereus forbesii 'Spiral Cactus', also known as the 'Tornado Cactus' is a rare, eye-catching cactus known for its mesmerizing spiral growth pattern, which twists in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. Ideal for well-lit areas, it’s low-maintenance and drought-tolerant, perfect for beginners and experts alike! With its slow-growing yet captivating form, the Spiral Cactus brings unique architectural interest to any space.

Note: Our cacti aren’t cuttings—they’re fully rooted plants! This means they’re already established and ready to thrive in their new home. Succulents naturally have shallow roots, so don’t be surprised if that’s what you see, it’s a completely natural trait!

Water every 1-2 weeks, allowing soil to thoroughly dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in bright indirect light, but can tolerate a few hours of direct sunlight. Not suited for low light conditions.
Humidity Requirements
Cacti prefer low humidity levels, so it's best to keep them in a dry environment. Avoid placing them in a bathroom or other area with high humidity, as this can cause fungal diseases to develop or the soil to remain moist for too long.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Spiral Cactus real, and what causes its shape?
The Spiral Cactus is a real botanical mutation that originated from a single mutant plant discovered in Brazil during the 1980s. While standard cacti grow in straight vertical lines, this cultivar's cells divide unevenly, forcing the trunk to twist symmetrically as it grows upward. This genetic quirk occurs completely at random, meaning individual plants can spiral in either a clockwise or counterclockwise direction!

Why is my Spiral Cactus growing straight instead of twisting?
If your Spiral Cactus begins growing straight vertical ribs, it is likely due to a lack of sunlight. Low light causes the plant to stretch straight up toward a light source, flattening its spiral, which can be fixed by giving it more direct sunlight or placing a grow light overhead.

How often do you water a Spiral Cactus?
The most reliable way to water cacti is the "soak and dry" method. Instead of watering on a strict calendar schedule, only water when the soil has completely dried out from top to bottom, which could be anywhere between 1-3 weeks depending on environmental conditions. Typically, during the growing season (spring & summer) you may water every 7-10 days, whereas in the dormant season (fall & winter) you may see watering reduced to every 2-4 weeks.
