Blue Spectacle stacks layer upon layer of supple petals into a full, rounded flower that looks every bit like a garden peony, but on a sturdy, upright tulip stem. The uncommon violet-blue coloring is the real draw, and it holds its own whether you plant a solid block of it or mix it with white and pink tulips.
Reaching about 20 inches tall, it's ideal for borders, mass plantings, and cutting gardens. Bulbs also perform beautifully in patio pots and window boxes, so you can bring that late-spring color right up to the front door even without garden beds.
Plant them in fall and let next May do the showing off.
