Blue Grape Hyacinth sends up tight, cone-shaped clusters of deep cobalt-blue bells on 6 to 8 inch stems every mid spring, and the sweet, grape-like fragrance carries on a warm afternoon. At just 2 to 3 inches wide, each plant tucks into tight spots along walkways, between shrubs, and under deciduous trees where nothing else wants to grow.
These bulbs are famously carefree and multiply on their own, so a single planting turns into a wider river of blue year after year. They shine in the dappled shade and part-sun spots that stump most spring bloomers, and a handful in a patio pot gives you fragrance right at the doorstep.
Plant them once in fall and let spring do the rest.
