Learn how to care for the Canela Tree, AKA the Cinnamon Plant!

The Canela Tree, also known as the cinnamon plant, is related to the culinary cinnamon we know and love. In fact, bruising the leaves or stems of the Canela Tree can actually produce a faint cinnamon scent. Native to Taiwan, the Canela is is characterized by its glossy, oval leaves, and its resilient nature as an indoor houseplant.

General Care
Sunlight

Thrives in low to medium light.

Water

Water once weekly, allowing the top inch of soil dry out between waterings.

Humidity

The humidity in your home will do.

Temperature

Average home temperature. If you’re comfortable, the Canela is comfortable.

Size

A well maintained Canela Tree will grow up to 8 feet tall.

Common Problems

SYMPTOM: Leaf tips browning

CAUSE: Under watered

SYMPTOM: Yellowing leaves

CAUSE: Over watered

SYMPTOM: Brown disc-shaped spots under leaves

CAUSE: Scale bugs. Wipe leaves, top and bottom, with soapy water to treat the plant.

It is best practice to keep houseplants out of reach of small children and pets.
