Planting Roots with the Get Growing Foundation
A guest post from our Founder and CEO Eliza Blank.

Since The Sill started shipping nationally in 2014, we’ve felt a deep connection to Chicago—from the beginning, Chicagoans have been some of our most engaged customers, an ever-growing community. And so, when we opened our first retail store in Lakeview’s Southport Corridor in the summer of 2021, we knew we wanted to give back to a community that has supported us so strongly throughout the years. Its important to us that any organizations we support align with our mission of bringing plants to people and people to life. Enter the Get Growing Foundation—from my first conversation with fellow founder and CEO, Tony Abruscato, the alignment was clear—were both extremely passionate about getting more plants into people’s hands, period.

The Get Growing Foundation is a non-profit serving the Greater Chicago Community through outreach and education designed to inspire the next generation of plant lovers. Were thrilled to be supporting Tony and his team in providing plants to youth in underserved communities.

We invite you to join us in this long-term partnership and support the Get Growing Foundation’s mission. More initiatives will be added below as they unfold (many are in the works!).

Plant Truck Chicago Pop Up

Choose the Grant Planter when shopping with us in our Chicago store.

We named the Grant planter after Chicago’s beloved front yard, Grant Park. And as a celebration of planting our roots down in Chicago, we’re donating 15% of proceeds from Grant planter sales to the Get Growing Foundation. Proceeds will help fund GGF’s year-round educational programming, inspiring neighborhood garden installations, and community outreach.

Plant Truck Chicago Pop Up

Stop by and visit a Plant Truck Chicago pop-up.

Plant Truck Chicago (PTC) is a mobile plant boutique raising funds for the Foundation through the sale of plants at events throughout the city. PTC pops up outside our Lakeview, Chicago location (1351 W Roscoe Street) from time-to-time. Follow @thesillchicago to find out when they'll pop up next. 100% of plant truck proceeds support the Get Growing Foundation’s mission of bringing plant access and education to the Greater Chicago Community.
