Do Hostas bloom and should you cut off the flower scapes?
Hostas are herbaceous and die back completely to the ground after the first hard frost. You can cut away dead, browned foliage in late fall to prevent overwintering slug eggs and pests, and fresh new leaves will re-emerge every spring.
Are Hostas deer and rabbit resistant?
Yes, Hostas produce tall stalks called scapes bearing bell-shaped or trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of lavender, violet, or white during midtolate summer which you can cut back down to the base after blooming finishes. Many varieties have fragrant blooms that attract hummingbirds and bees!
