About The Bunny Cactus

The Bunny Cactus or Bunny Ear Cactus, scientifically known as Opuntia microdasys 'Bunny Ears', is a charming cactus known for its flat, oval-shaped pads covered in tiny, velvety spines, that resemble a bunny’s ears. Thriving in bright light and occasional waterings, this cactus its ideal for those looking to add a new eye-catching plant to their collection.

The pads, or "ears" of the Opuntia are delicate, so it’s not unusual for one to become detached from the mother plant. Don't worry though—these pads can easily be propagated to grow into a new plant!

Note: Our cacti aren’t cuttings—they’re fully rooted plants! This means they’re already established and ready to thrive in their new home. Succulents naturally have shallow roots, so don’t be surprised if that’s what you see, it’s a completely natural trait!

Watering Requirements
Water every 2-3 weeks, allowing soil to dry out between waterings. Expect to water more often in brighter light and less often in lower light.
Sunlight Requirements
Thrives in bright direct light, but can tolerate bright indirect light.
Humidity Requirements
Succulents prefer low humidity levels, so it's best to keep them in a dry environment. Avoid placing them in a bathroom or other area with high humidity, as this can cause fungal diseases to develop or the soil to remain moist for too long.

No! While Opuntia microdasys does not have long, terrifying spikes, it is covered in hundreds of clusters of microscopic, hair-like barbs called glochids. The slightest brush against the plant will release dozens of these tiny golden or white barbs into your skin.

Move the cactus to your absolute brightest window, ideally a south-facing sill that gets 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Why are the "ears" on my Bunny Cactus growing long, skinny, and pale?
