Easy-Care Plants FAQ

Are snake plants easy to care for?

Snake plants are a popular choice for beginner gardeners. The low-maintenance succulents can grow from just several inches to a few feet tall and can thrive even if they get a bit neglected. They grace many windowsills and apartments thanks to how easy it is to care for them. Snake plants can go a few weeks without water, but these plants do grow quicker in warm weather and fare better in indirect sunlight. There are many benefits to having a snake plant, including filtering the air and removing pollutants, and of course, the aesthetics. A word of caution though to pet owners: if you have dogs or cats, keep the Snake plants away from them as the plants can be toxic to pets.

How can I chose the right low light plant for me?

The easiest plant to care for is the one that fits your home's environment and lifestyle. Instead of trying to adapt to a specific plant’s requirements, choose one that will fit your needs. Consider your home’s sunlight exposure, temperature, and schedule. If your room doesn't get a lot of natural sunlight, select a plant that can thrive with little natural light, such as a cactus. If your home’s temperature varies or it isn’t in a warm climate, choose a plant that can tolerate the temperature. If you travel frequently, you’ll do better with a plant that doesn’t need to be watered often, such as a Snake plant.

What makes a plant easy to take care of?

Some plants require a copious amount of care and attention - others are more easy-going. Easy-to-care-for plants don’t need to be watered often and aren’t sensitive to temperature, humidity, and lighting changes.

What is the fastest and easiest plant to take care of?

Succulents are the ideal plants for beginners and the easiest to care for - as they don't require much care. They can go with infrequent watering and can handle some neglect. For a faster-growing plant, consider getting an aloe vera. You’ll only need to water the Bird’s Nest Fern once a week or two, and it fairs best in indirect sunlight. The Spider plant is another excellent choice for a fast-growing and low-maintenance plant. Its leaves can grow up to 18 inches long!

Low-Maintenance Plants

Contrary to popular myth, you don’t need a green thumb to be able to enjoy houseplants. While some plants require specific care, you can find many varieties of low-maintenance plants that are beautiful and easy for beginners to grow.

All plants need light and water, but some are more forgiving than others. Low-maintenance plants are sturdy and can tolerate a range of temperatures, limited sunlight, and infrequent watering. It’s just a small investment to reap the benefits of greenery.
