YOU PICKED THIS CUTE PLANT:
Tillandsia xerographica is a dry-forest air plant that is native to Central America. Like other bromeliads, it grows from a central rosette, radiating out it’s funky leaves, and promoting new growth and pups (baby air plants) from the center. Also, like other bromeliads, the growth is quite slow, taking years to reach the full size of approximately 3 feet in diameter - yes, feet. It is monocarpic, meaning that once it flowers, it dies, but not before making many pups.
The Plant Care
Bright light. Tolerates medium light in winter. Not suited for intense, direct sunlight.
Unlike your hair, air plants love high humidity! Keep them in a bathroom or kitchen, or mist them 2-3 times a week with a squirt-bottle.
If your leaves start to turn yellow, black or worse, they've probably recieved too much water/love. But be careful to avoid letting water sit or soak in the rosette, if water accumulates, flip the air plant upside down on a paper towel to drain.
