Think: dry desert! Many different species have evolved to have similar drought-surviving adaptations. Some have evolved to be so similar, that they are often confused with one another — like cacti and euphorbias. Adaptations include thickened, waxy leaves, water-storing stems, self-shading mechanisms (such as spines), or an alternative form of photosynthesis (such as C4 or CAM).
