STAGHORN FERN -
Platycerium spp.

Staghorn ferns can typically be found growing in trees and rocky outcroppings in southeast Asia. These ferns over time can become a fun project, since you can cut off "pups" or smaller new ferns to repot or get crafy with a moss or wooden wall holder. 'Platycerium' is derived from the Greek words platys meaning "flat" and ceras meaning "a horn", referring to the shape of the fronds. The genus Platycerium is relatively unresolved, but genetic research is helping to parse out related and unrelated species.

Plant Care

Light

Low to medium to bright, indirect light. Prefers indirect light.

Water

Water weekly. Ferns can handle wet soil better than other plants, but still do not like to be sopping wet all the time. Allow soil to half-dry out before watering.

Extra Love

Ferns generally are generally sun-shy, but this fern can handle some direct sun, as it is an epiphyte.
