The lemon cypress, Hesperocyparis macrocarpa ‘Goldcrest’, is native to SW climates in the U.S, specifically in Monterey, CA. It is an evergreen conifer that grows up to 13 feet tall and can tolerate temperatures as low as 10 degrees! Eventually most will bare a wind sculptured growth habit in the wild, and most origins of the Cypress in CA date back to the 1950’s from trees planted by early settlers! The longest living Cypress was found to be about 284 yrs old, while few live beyond 100 years.
