Jade Plant

Learn how to care for a Jade Plant!

Back To Blog

The Crassula ovata (or Jade Plant) originates from South Africa. The word crassus in Latin means “thick”. The name Crassula was given to this group of succulent plants because they have thick leaves and stems as a way of storing water – a necessary resource in hot desert plains. The Jade in particular is known for its upright, treelike appearance and glossy green, spoon-shaped leaves. Positioned in bright light, the leaves can develop a red hue around their edges.

General Care

Sunlight

Bright indirect light to a few hours of direct sun. Not suited for low light conditions.

Water

Water every one to two weeks allowing soil to dry out completely between waterings. Increase frequency with increased light.

Humidity

Don’t sweat it. Average home humidity is fine; can tolerate dry air.

Temperature

Average home temperature of 65°F-75°F. If you’re comfortable, the Jade is comfortable.

Size

A well cared for Jade houseplant can reach 4’ in height over its lifetime.
